About Jim Seebock

Jim Seebock has been a City Councilman of Henderson, Nevada, which includes the historic Water District, for three years. He serves alongside the mayor and fellow councilmembers, helping set policy and make decisions on the various issues affecting Nevada’s second-largest city. Henderson is recognized as one of the safest cities and best places to live in the country.

Before serving as a councilman, Seebock was an experienced law enforcement executive with a proven ability to lead large, complex organizations and deliver results in high-stakes environments. His expertise includes strategic planning, operational execution, and transformational leadership, with a track record of building high-performing teams and implementing initiatives that drive efficiency, innovation, and long-term impact. 

Seebock is also skilled in overseeing large-scale security operations and special events, as well as managing complex investigations, counter-terror efforts, and community-focused programs. During his tenure in law enforcement, he was known for a hands-on approach, with the ability to assess operational and technical challenges, develop effective solutions, and ensure continuous improvement through ongoing evaluation and feedback.

Seebock Wins First-Ever Special Election to Become Councilman

In 2023, Councilman Jim Seebock won Henderson’s first-ever special election for the Ward 1 seat after serving on the Metropolitan Police Department for three decades. He was reelected in 2024, receiving endorsements by the Henderson Chamber of Commerce Political Endorsement Committee and the Henderson Professional Fire Fighters.

In his role as councilman, Seebock also represents Henderson in the Regional Transportation Commission, the Regional Flood Control, and the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority.

Seebock’s Law Enforcement Career

Jim Seebock began his career with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) in 1993. Over 30 years, he served in a variety of roles, including Patrol Officer, Narcotics Detective, K9 Handler, Patrol Sergeant, K9 Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Counterterrorism Lieutenant, and Captain.

As a captain, Seebock held several high-impact leadership positions. He led the Organizational Development Bureau, overseeing training for approximately 5,000 department members, including the Police Academy, field training programs, advanced tactical training, and use-of-force review processes. 

He later served as Executive Director of the Southern Nevada Counterterrorism Center, coordinating intelligence and operations among more than 20 local, state, and federal agencies, while overseeing major grant programs and leading counterterrorism and crime analytics initiatives. Seebock also commanded the SWAT Bureau, directing tactical operations during barricade and hostage incidents and leading specialized teams, including crisis negotiators and homeland security units, with full responsibility for outcomes during critical events.

In 2020, Seebock was promoted to Deputy Chief, where his assignments included the Community Policing Division, the Tourist Safety Division (Las Vegas Strip and major events), and the Detention Services Division, overseeing large-scale operations and public safety initiatives across the department.

In 2022, Seebock was promoted to Assistant Sheriff, the third-highest rank in the department, where he oversaw all uniformed officers.

During major critical incidents, LVMPD activates a Department Operations Center to coordinate response efforts for events such as natural disasters, officer-involved tragedies, and other large-scale emergencies. Seebock was selected on multiple occasions to lead this operations center, including during the October 1, 2017, Las Vegas mass shooting.

Over the course of his career, he was recognized with the Unit Medal of Valor, multiple Meritorious Service Medals, and the Community Service Award. He retired in July 2023.

His Education and Training

While serving with LVMPD, Jim Seebock earned an Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from the College of Southern Nevada, a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration (Law Enforcement) from Nevada State College, and a Master of Arts in Security Studies from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterrey, California. 

He completed Nevada POST training at the Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Management, and Executive levels, as well as the Henderson Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program. He also attended the Anti-Defamation League’s Western States Leadership Seminar in Israel and received post-blast investigator training at the FBI training facility.

Seebock’s Personal Life, Volunteer Work

Councilman Jim Seebock moved to Henderson with his family in 1986. He has one brother and one sister. He attended Burkholder Junior High School and later graduated from Basic High School. While he was still in high school, his father passed away, leading his mother to take on two jobs and prompting Jim to assume added responsibility at a young age, helping to care for and support his sister.

Seebock met his wife, Barbara, during high school and married in 1996. They became parents to boy/girl twins through embryo adoption. As a family, they have enjoyed many trips to the beach and Disneyland, and they love to hike around the community or wherever they are visiting. His 19-year-old twins are currently attending college at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and Northern Arizona University.

The family attends Central Christian Church, and over the last 30 years, Seebock has served in the bookstore, on the welcome team, in guest relations, led small groups, and is currently part of the legacy ministry.

He has served as a volunteer youth coach for T-ball, soccer, baseball, and flag football. Jim Seebock, Councilman, has also volunteered and served on the Parks Board and Civil Service Board for the City of Henderson.

In addition, his charitable donations include the Henderson Little League, Foothill High School Theater, Foothill High School Band, Salvation Army, Goodwill, and the Central Christian Church.
